Preschool
In Preschool, children are immersed in a bilingual English–Spanish environment through daily routines, stories, and play.They are introduced to both languages, developing early listening, speaking, and vocabulary skills while building confidence.
Primary School
In Primary, learners continue to develop their academic foundation with English and Spanish as core languages of instruction. English is used for core subjects, while Spanish is strengthened through dedicated lessons that build literacy and cultural understanding.At this stage, French is introduced as a third language, giving students early exposure through engaging activities that make language learning meaningful and connected to real-life contexts.
Secondary School
In Secondary, students continue developing their trilingual skills in English, Spanish, and French. French instruction begins in 8th grade, with placement guided by diagnostic assessments in 8th and 9th grades. From 10th grade through the IB Diploma, students continue French at levels suited to their proficiency - beginner, intermediate, or advanced - allowing them to graduate with B2 and be ready for study in French-speaking countries. By the third year of high school, students reach C1 in English, enabling them to study, work, and live in English-speaking environments.
Students at Terranova take the lead in learning English and French through our extracurricular Language School, offered after school hours. They practice speaking, reading, and writing while exploring the cultures behind each language. In English, they build confidence in expressing ideas, and in French, they learn practical language skills and discover Francophone traditions.
By offering diverse language experiences, students develop the confidence, skills, and adaptability needed to succeed.
Graduating students at Colegio Terranova reach C1 in English by the third year of high school, enabling them to study, work, and live in English-speaking environments.Many also achieve B2 in French, validated through external proficiency assessments supported by our affiliation with the Alliance Française., preparing them to study in French-speaking countries.
Through International School Partnerships' International Opportunities program, students engage in cultural exchanges, debates, and creative projects - safe, inspiring spaces to practice and grow their language skills.Students also participate in exchanges that provide unforgettable opportunities to use and develop their language skills while building leadership, communication, and initiative, equipping them to thrive inside and beyond school.
